Windows Genuine Advantage

I asked about WGA in another post, but at the time I didn't know that WGA
was the cause.

This statement is made on
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx?displaylang=en

Q:
What if a customer does not want the WGA Notification application as part of
their Automatic Updates? Can customers remove the WGA Notifications
permanently?
A:
[snip]
Once installed, WGA Notifications becomes a permanent part of the user's
Windows XP system, and cannot be uninstalled.

However, participants will have the option to suppress all the notifications
for some length of time.

Users will not have the option of uninstalling WGA Notifications. Users who
fail validation will be taken to a Web page with a prominent option to
license genuine Windows.

However, nowhere on the page is at stated how to suppress the notifications.
Does anyone know how.?

Ever heard of Google?

Well, I use Google all the time, but I didn't think that I would find
anything by such a search criterion, i.e. suppress+wga+notifications This
just goes to prove that it is always worth a try, and there is nothing to
lose - a bit like the adage ' Pressing F1 ever broke anything."

I am surprised that some references are several years old, when I only just
started getting these messages in the last week or so .

So, of all the recommendations, what has worked best for others ?

Haven't tried a damned thing from the link you received, have you?
You're a lazy-assed idiot who wants everyone to do your work for you,
huh?

No, I am a careful person who doesn't want to jump in, boots and all and
then find that he has destroyed his computer's OS.

I have read the entire link and there are 14 options, some of them years
old, some of them updated, some of them noted with "This doesn't work
anymore", etc., etc. I also found that they refer to Windows Genuine
Advantage only, whereas my problem is triggered by Microsoft Office. I could
even be reading a link which doesn't help me.

Anyway, who better to advise than those who have "been there, done that" and
know all the tricks and traps?

Thanks to those who answer in this helpful vein, but I don't understand
where your angst is coming from

Your first post was about Office Genuine Advantage (OGA), not WGA, Trevor,
so why are you asking now about WGA Notification application
now...especially since you haven't replied to TaurArian's or my replies to
the original thread?

And you're a smart ass from Chicago who is trying to impress people?

to stalk people?

You have a most obnoxious personality. All you do is stalk, criticize
posters and make fun of them.
Do you have any friends? Who are you trying to impress?

Nobody... I do this for my own personal entertainment.

This reply was brought to you by the letters F and U.

Because I am unsure as to what is happening.
Are they different?
Are they related?
Can I delete one without deleting the other?

I apologise for not replying. I had thought that these posts were mainly
references to info. on MS sites, but I will check them again and see what I
can say that will provide further info.
