WEIRD sounds problem / Read ALL the question to understand, please

Hello. I have a weird problem with my sounds. I can listen some of the
Windows sounds but NOT all of them. For example, I can listen the “Log on/off
sounds†but I CAN'T listen the “start/exit Windows soundsâ€. The same happens
with my MSN Messenger 7.0 sounds. I CAN'T listen most of the sounds. For
example, I CAN'T listen the “buzz†sound, but I can listen the winks!

I have gone to Control Panel / Sounds and Audio Devices / Sounds, and as
sound scheme, I have “Windows Defaultâ€. I have also gone to my MSN Messenger,
Tools / Options / Alerts and Sounds, and all the boxes are selected.

A guy named Malke gave me this website:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp.htm and told me to look at the Top Ten
issues and find "Where Did My Sounds Go?†Well, I followed all the
instructions there and nothing worked. Can someone help me to fix the problem
please?

Uhh..Malke is a she. Have you removed all he sound software associated
with the sound card in Add/remove programs, then uninstalled the sound
card drivers in device mangager, taken out the card, rebooted, then
reinstalled the card and drivers?

Sorry Malke. I got confused. I didn't want to offend you. Do you have any
other idea to solve the problem? I will appreciate it.

Hello Rock. No, I haven’t done that. That seems very complicated and I don’t
have a lot of experience doing those technical things to my computer and I’m
afraid I can make the problem even worst. By the way, I have a laptop. Do you
have another idea?

Oh, I also wanted to say that while most of my MSN Messenger 7.0 sounds don’t
work, all of my Windows Messenger sounds work perfectly. Isn’t that WEIRD? :S

You are now contradicting your original post. All windows sounds work when you said different in your original statement. SOME of my MSN Messenger sounds work when you said most work.

Kenneth can you give us a complete ACCURATE detail to exactly what is the problem with your sounds

I think I gave a more accurate description of my problem this time Peter.
When I posted my problem on May 23rd you told me to do things that I had
already tried by myself before and that I specified that I had already done.
I think that you gave me my own advice because maybe you don’t read slowly
enough or with all your attention on what people are asking help for. I
appreciate the time you take to write, but if you can’t help me, please don’t
give me hope, because this problem is making me crazy and I get happy when
someone posts an answer to my question because I think that I will finally be
able to solve my problem.

What I meant was, that I am able to listen SOME of the Windows XP sounds,
but NOT ALL of them (I even gave examples). I also said that I have the same
problem with my MSN messenger 7.0; but with it, the problem is even worst
because I’m NOT able to listen most of the sounds; I JUST can listen the
winks. Moreover, I finally said in a reply that it is weird that while I’m
NOT able to listen most of my MSN Messenger 7.0 sounds, I can listen
perfectly all of my “Windows MESSENGER†sounds, which is a completely
different but similar messenger system. If someone out there can help me to
solve this problem, I will really appreciate it.

Just a shot in the dark...is it possible someone removed some .wav files
trying to save space....or 'some' are corrupted and won't play?

No, all the Media Files (which are .wav files) are there. I can play all the
sounds that I'm not able to listen if I go to Control Panel / Sounds and
Audio Devices / Sounds.

Hello Everybody! I wanted to tell you that I finally solved the problem by
myself! I want to thank all the people that posted a reply to my question
trying to help me. Thank you very much.

What I did to fix the problem wasn’t maybe the best thing, but it worked. I
just created a new Windows XP User Account, and I deleted the old Account I
was using. It was quick and effective. I hope this can help other people who
have the same problem.
