Cannot listen the "start/exit Windows sound" & any alarm of MSN Me

Hello. Since almost a month ago, I have not been able to listen to any alarm
or sound of my MSN Messenger 7.0. When I turn on my laptop I don’t listen
anymore the “start Windows sound†and the same happens when I turn it off; I
don’t listen the “exit windows soundâ€. However, I am able to listen the
“windows logon sound†and the “windows logoff sound†whenever I logoff or
logon my laptop.

I have tried to fix the problem going to Tools, Options, Alarms and Sounds,
Sounds… menu of the MSN Messenger but nothing gets fixed. I have also gone to
Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, and I have not been able to fix the
problem either.

I hope someone can help me to solve my problem. I will appreciate it.

Hello Kenneth

Unfortunately you have posted to the wrong group. Since you are posting via the CDO interface copy\paste the below link into you Browser's address bar and it will take you to the right group where they will be able to answer your issue
with MSN.

Thanks Peter. However, what about the fact that I can’t listen the
“start/exit Windows sound†when I turn on or turn off my laptop? That has
nothing to do with MSN messenger and I hope someone can help me to solve that
problem. I guess both problems are in a way linked.

Peter, what you told me to do is exactly what I have been doing, and I still
do not listen the “start/exit Windows sounds†when I turn on or turn off my
laptop. As sound scheme, I currently have “Windows Defaultâ€. What can I
really do in order to solve the problem?

You did all of these things? Testing after each change?

TweakUI/General/Beep on errors (verify that the box is checked).

System Sounds are missing:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key: HKEY_USERS. If it
doesn't have a Data entry in the right pane that reads: (value not
set), double click (Default) and delete it. If it does, check your
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21 keys for the same.

Hello Everybody! I wanted to tell you that I finally solved the problem by
myself! I want to thank all the people that posted a reply to my question
trying to help me. Thank you very much.

What I did to fix the problem wasn’t maybe the best thing, but it worked. I
just created a new Windows XP User Account, and I deleted the old Account I
was using. It was quick and effective. I hope this can help other people who
have the same problem.
