weird file extensions

I believe this could be a security issue. My computer has a number of files
in the root level of the C: drive that have the extension of .SA9. I don't
know where they came from and no application on the machine is associated
with them. A virus check reports no problems and Adaware doesn't list them
as problems either. I want to remove them but I first want to identify
their origin
