Web Based Applications keep needing to close

I am having problems with Web based applications 'encountering a problem and
needing to close'. This appears to be random but so far affects IE and
Napster (in certain screens). The error log gives the following information:-

'Windows cannot access the file C:\windows\system32\msxml3.dll'.
Faulting module msxml3.dll,version 8.70.1113.0, fault address 0x000a85b1
Additional Data Error Value: C000009C
disk type: 3

I think the issue may to be to do with an automatic update but every time I
try to get into the windows update page it has to close. Today it is also
failing to recognise that I am connected to the internet when trying to send
an error report.

I am running windowsXP with SP2. I have recently downloaded IE7 but the
problem was also happening in IE6. Any help / suggestions in easy to follow
language would be gratefully received.
Thanks

Thanks Trevor - I tried this but still getting the same problem. I tried the
Windows update site as a test - it started checking to make sure I had the
right version of the update software and then closed. I tried this several
times andeven rebooted - same problem!
