Anybody got a motherboard/CPU languishing about going cheap that takes DDR RAM and an AGP video card?

Cos me mate's machine (Pentium IV/Asus mobo) has just died on him and he's borassic atm.

I swapped out memory/PSU/video card and it wouldn't POST.

Or failing that, I have a Socket A DFI motherboard that will do but no CPU for it so if anybody has a Socket A CPU for sale that'll do :thumb:

I have a couple of Sckt A coolers so that's not a problem.

I got a Asus P4V8000-X mobo seen only light use for about a year no heavy gaming at all. Takes AGP and PCI-E GFX cards. £20 inc postage.

Ok, thanks. I think that's what was in there already.

I shall check.

It's either the motherboard or CPU that's at fault.

The CPU in my mate's machine is a 3.2 pentium from around 2003.

Its says on the socket 'PGA478B' so I guess that's a socket 478.

Hmm.

Decisions, decisions, it's a gamble innit?

It's possible both motherboard and CPU are faulty.

Thinking.

btw, it's a 3Ghz CPU, not a 3.2.

I might very well be. If you'd like to give me some prices, including postage details, either in this thread or by PM, I'll contact you.

Abarb: I phoned me mate today at noon and left a message on his mobile phone answer service. He hasn't phoned me back yet.

If it were me I'd buy the motherboard you're offering and even if he had to buy a new CPU at around £58.00 inc postage, that's still only less than £80.00 to have his machine up and running again. I'm not charging him anything.

I cleaned his computer case today, I think what killed his machine may have been overheating as the whole thing was so clogged with fluff and dust there can't have been any airflow through the machine at all, it was awful.

The machine has 2 x 80mm fans at the front bringing air in and 1 x 120mm fan at the rear exhausting. All of them were clogged, I'm surprised they even rotated.

Ok flops the mobo is sat in its box so time is not an issue. I always wonder where all that fluff comes from.

Hiya psd99 thanks for listing those items.

I did only say, however, that I may be interested and I'm really not sure what I'm doing yet.

I spoke to me mate about half hour ago and he tells me he's just come into some money so he's considering buying a new system. I'm waiting for him to make his mind up.

I will let you know my intentions as soon as possible.

One last thing - what's the CPU in the machine? If it's a 3200 2.2Ghz I may be interested.

I know I got a 3000 for sure though somewhere if you'd like that
