Get this message when trying to upgrade from W2K Pro to XP
Pro: "Windows XP Setup does not support upgrading from
Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional to Microsoft Windows
XP Professional."
Have valid W2k installed and have valid XP Pro to be
installed.

BIOS upgraded and compatable with Windows XP?
Is it a RETAIL or UPGRADE version of Windows XP Professional you are trying
to use?

Full version, "Windows XP Professional 1 -2 CPU OEM
Product"
System meets specs, Bios is latest Bios for mother board.

So it *is* a retail copy.. It does not say OEM on it? It came in a
box/retail packaginf and not a plastic wrapped piece of cardboard?

(OEM copies cannot upgrade other OS installs. It is for NEW installs only.)

The sticker does say "OEM" on it. Its in not in a box,
purchased from local computer store when I got another
mother board. Siran wrapped booklet with cardboard for a
stiffener. Product key stuck on siran wrap.
Probably my problem.
Thanks for the input. Looks like I am stuck with doing
a "fresh install".
Unless there is a way around this?

Well, I cannot give more information than this:

Do a Google Search for:

"Unlocking WinXP's setupp.ini"

And you could, in theory, use that information to possibly get around the
limitation. However, your OEM CD may have more removed than I know about,
making it incapable for other reasons to do an upgrade.

Ballworth,

You have an OEM version of WinXP Pro. OEM versions will NOT "Upgrade" over
any OS! This will require that you do a clean install ONLY.

Best solution is to return it and get the Upgrade Retail product OR do a
clean install.
