VPN Connects but not Remote Desktop

I am a Windows XP Pro user. I use a Linksys Wireless-G 2.4GHz 54Mps Broadband
router to connect to the internet from home. I am trying to connect to my
work computer from home. I can connect to the server with the VPN connection,
but when I try to open the remote desktop, I get the following message "The
specified remote computer could not be found. Verify that you have typed the
correct name/IP address correctly and try again." I have verified it several
times with my system administrator. I took my computer to Starbucks and was
able to VPN and remote desktop from there. Any suggestions how I can change
my Linksys settings to be able to be able to open the remote desktop? I am a
novice with this stuff so please be specific.

Does your home LAN use the same IP sub-net (e.g. 192.168.1.xxx) as your work
LAN? If so, that is what is wrong. You must use different IP sub-nets at
each end of the VPN link.

You will need to reconfigure your home router to use an IP sub-net range
which is not in conflict with the address ranges in use at your place of
work. For instance, you could reconfigure your Linksys to use
192.168.222.xxx.
