remote desktop thru vpn

Sammie

i am trying to connect through remote desktop on xp pro at home to my office
(xp pro also) thru a vpn connection. I keep getting that general message
about "network can't connect to remote computer, remote may not be enabled,
etc". I have tried shutting all security, still doesn't work. I know the
setup is correct because i set it up the vpn on a friends computer who has
xp pro as a test and there was no problem with remote desktop.
The only difference I can see is that their connection is through cable and
mine is DSL-can that be the cause somehow? If not what else can I try? The
source defintely seems to be the home computer.

i think i cheecked the ms firewall properly and it said 3389 was not
blocked..but maybe i did it incorrectly

If the remote desktop is enabled and windows firewall doesn't block the port
3389, I would check the other security software. For troubleshooting, start
the computer with clean boot.

run Windows OS with a clean boot. when you cannot determine the cause of the
issue, you may run Windows clean boot. ...
