Volume control program has not been installed

Error message when I click on Display The Volumn Icon it
gives me the following message. "Windows cannot display
the volume control on the taskbar because the Volumn
Control Program has not been installed. To install it, use
Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel." - I have searched
but I cannot find out how to fix this problem. How do I
install the Volume Control Program?

If the Sndvol32.exe program is missing or damaged, your installation will exhibit this behavior

To fix the problem

1. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM, holding down the SHIFT key to prevent AutoPlay

2. Open a CMD prompt and type

Expand <CD-ROM_Drive>:\i386\sndvol32.ex_ %windir%\system32\dllcache\sndvol32.ex
Expand <CD-ROM_Drive>:\i386\sndvol32.ex_ %windir%\system32\sndvol32.ex

When I do Start Run and type in cmd it brings up a box
that has: C:\Documents and Settings\Deborah>
What do I do after that?
I can type in D: after that and it will show the prompt

D:\> (which is where my Windows XP cd is)

I then type in expand and it tells me no files specified
If I try expand D:\ again it tells me no files specified

If I try D:\> cd i386
then this comes up D:\I386> (after this I can not figure
where to go or even if this is right so far.
My problem is I am not familiar with the prompt thing.
Most of time I just get message "files not specified" or
some other kind of message and it takes me right back
to where I started. So I need a step by step instructions,
if you do not mind. I really appreciate your help.

Thank you for your help. I found the article. It helped
somewhat but I could not get the prompt right.

Start, run, then type in cmd
then type d:
then type cd i386
then type expand sndvol32.ex_ c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe

then when you have finished the above, type exit

I'm assuming d: in the drive with the windows xp cd in.
