Having just reinstalled XP home, there is still no sound
coming from the my new toshiba laptop on any
applications, even CD player. The volume control is
greyed out in both the tray icons and the main volume
control menu. Only Wave, SW Synth and CD player are
shown - NO MASTER VOLUME!!! Arrrgggg. Reinstalling from
scratch doesnt help. Help me...!!! PS. All the drivers
are registered as working ok in device manager. Could it
be a hardware fault?

How are you installing the audio drivers? Windows usually does not
automatically install those drivers and usually needs to be loaded from
the Toshiba support CD.

it sounds like you haven't installed the sound drivers properly.

If I remember correctly Toshiba supply a 'tools and utilities CDROM' with
their machines, it'll have the drivers on it.
