When I boot up I get the blue screen as if I have
requested a disk check, but the msg says something
like "cannot open file for direct access to windows, has
finsihed checking this volume". Everything seems fine
with the computer, when I request to run chkdisk and
reboot i get the same screen. Have uptodate Norton, all
windows updates, spybot, adaware, ZAlarm, did a restore
back a couple of weeks and same result. Thanks in
advance.

Do you have ZA v.5? Try to uninstall it (temporarily).
If this solves your prob, install an older version (4.something).

Pavela, you were right after uninstalling ZA.5 it booted
up and went to chkdisk correctly, thanks a lot. Fluffy
