Is there such a thing as a freeware voice recognition program?

OT Question: I heard that Windows XP has some kind of voice recognition
program built into it. Is this correct?

Thanks all! Take care! e.t.

This, I think, is Nitrous Voice Flux(or just Voice Flux). It turned up on a
search for : nvf speech command
on Ixquick.com. http://www.voiceflux.net/ It sounds like it might be what
you're looking for.

I'm not sure about XP but Microsoft Office does. You just have to install
it.

I wanted to do this some time ago but could not see how to. There is
nothing in my Word 2000 menus which seems relevant, nor could I see
any non-installed components.

Don't know if Office 2000 has it, but Office XP does. It's installed by
default on a non-custom installation. Tools, Speech, turn the language
bar on. Note, I did a lot of testing of this feature for a visually
impaired user. The voice Recognition is pretty bad. Any VR system will
take a great deal of training. You can try Microsoft speech at
http://www.Microsoft.com/speech/download/ but plan to spend a couple of
hours training it.
