I am taking part in a ppt presentation (my part covers 6 slides). However, I
cannot be present but will insert audio files. I want to avoid having to
have those actually present to have to click each slide as well as the
speaker icon. Can I set up my portion for "auto run" and leave their
portions to run manually?

Yes you can using PPT 2002/2003. See the following link
for sound instructions:

You'll want to set your slide transisitions to forward
automatically. Go to Slide Show > Slide Transitions.
Adjust settings/timing as desired.
