Vista S3 resume from sleep problem

Hi,

My Vista 64 machine (Gigabyte GA-X48-DS5 mobo, Q6600 cpu, 8GB ram,
Radeon HD2400 vga card) has a problem when it resumes from sleep.
There is a protracted (3 seconds) buzzing noise and then the display
shows a vertical pattern of narrow red and white stripes and the
machine hangs. Only a reset will get it to reboot - the keyboard is
completely dead.

Any advice ?

Thanks,

Mike

I should say that there is an installation of XP Pro 32 on the same
machine which resumes without problem.

Update your drivers. I had a similar problem with a different motherboard
and a Radeon 3450, resolved when Catalyst 8.6 was installed.

Well according to the windows driver update I am using the latest
version of the drivers for this card.

Thanks,

Which means absolutely nothing. Check the video card web site, not
Microsoft's, being as Microsoft doesn't create drivers and usually has
very old ones on their update site.

Yes this is hightly likely to be a GFX driver problem. Try uninstalling your
GFX drivers and then see what Windows update says.. sometimes you can get a
Microsoft driver that will be more stable (in my experience) but not as good
performace wise- so the best bet is to go for ATI.

Well, I downloaded version 8.6 of the ATI driver suite and that has
indeed fixed my problem.

Many thanks to all who replied,

Mike
