Maybe you could consult a dictionary? Does most vital part ring the bell
for you? Have fun with whatever system you choose. XP will last a long
time, though support will cease at some point.

What support? I have a generic OEM XP. If you're talking about updates,
well, that's when I will go for a MAC or for Linux. Maybe by then Linux
will be more user friendly.
Hell, people are still using
Windows 3.1. Nobody is forcing you and nobody really cares if you don't
want Vista.

Oh, I know that MS doesn't care about it's paying customers. This is not
new. MS considers them to be the enemy as is evidenced by all the
so-called anti piracy crap they've come up with.
heart and soul
n : the choicest or most essential or most vital part of some thing,
idea or experience.

You are assuming, incorrectly, that a computer has a "most essential" or
"most vital part". Like I said, without a power supply, you will not be
able to fire up a motherboard. A power supply is *essential* and a
"vital part". In addition, without a power cord, your power supply won't
work so it, too, is "essential" and a "most vital part". No, this is
just a ploy to get rid of hobbyists and only cater to people who, when
thinking of upgrading, go out and buy a new Dell or HP.

Last post, but none of those parts, while vital to the operation of the
computer, interface directly with the Windows operating system (thru the
BIOS stored thereon)

So? Without a hard drive, no Windows. Without a CDROM, no Windows.
Without a keyboard and mouse, no installation of Windows. Without a
monitor ...

Be a man and admit you're wrong. You'll feel better if you do. Whether
the motherboard is the heart and soul has nothing to do with what MS is
doing. What they are doing is forcing people to buy copies of Windows
that they don't need and it will be the bane of Windows.

The motherboard is the best point of reference to determine if a system is
new.

False. All it determines is if the motherboard is new and, again, a
motherboard does not a computer make.

I agree, it's a turn off! That will also cut down on my purchase of windows
too. I decided today to go back to my windows xp home edition instead of
using vista rc1 (didn't work as well as xp anyway). I think I'll wait for
service pack 2 of vista before I make any decisions to even try to purchase
it just once. I will however upgrade my hardware on my computer to make it
better and faster for me and only for myself. Not for Microsoft as it looks
like that what they want get people to buy vista ready computers or upgrade
their exsisting computers. Feel like they are working against us instead of
with us.

Totally agree. When I first read the Vista license, I was appalled and
thought I misunderstood something or missed a clause. Went back and read it
again twice. And the first thing I did after that was to download Fedora
and Ubuntu to try them out.........

Thanks Mikey. I downloaded the vista agreement and read it over myself,
in
pdf! I understand now. Yes I can format my computer from time to time.
Also with me upgrading my computer now, it should be all right for it.
Thanks again!

That's "Mickey", PLEASE don't call me Mikey. :)
