Vista Start Menu

Saud

Can you please include the option of changing the start menu to XP style. I
dont like the default Vista start menu and the other option available is
windows 98 style. That sucks I cant believe there is no option to change the
start menu to XP.
Please include this option in SP1 for Vista.
Thanks

Instead of poking the mouse through a pile of shortcuts, hit the Start
button on the keyboard and just type a few letters of what you're wanting to
start and hit enter. It's about 10 times faster. :)

The option isn't available in current builds of SP1, so it is extremely
unlikely it'll show up.

Saud,

There is no option to change the start menu to XP because Vista is not
XP. You may not agree with me but if I purchase a new vehicle I don't want it
to look like my old vehicle.

Personally, I think once you have used Vista for awhile you will
appreciate the new start menu. It looks better and is much easier to use than
XP's start menu.

Have a nice day.

actually, the new menues are not easier to use. if you over simplify things
like say, the control panel, you make it so search oriented that people who
*know* what they are looking for spend ours looking for the *simple* menue.
try finding the menue to change the gamma on the monitor (makes it less white
without turning the brightness down). i spent 30 minutes looking for that
alone. i hate the new menues. computers are not cars, but if they were i
would like the steering wheel and radio to be where they used to be and the
buttons to still do the same thing.

You must have been annoyed during the move from 95 to 2K and the move from
2K to XP, cause MS moved the cheese each time. Personally, I think Vista's
search functions make it easier to find stuff. The search function in the CP
makes it far easier to find stuff than rooting around in the menu system
trying to find stuff. I use XP daily and have for years and if I'm looking
for something I don't use on a regular basis, it's no easier finding it in
XP. Harder, in fact, because XP has no CP search funtion.

I can't speak to why MS changed the UI in the fashion that they did. One
might surmise that they were tired of hearing Apple's "Works the way you
work" BS. Anyone that thinks MS didn't drop major bucks on UI studies for
Vista is in denial. (And I'm not saying that every UI decision was a good
one, not by a long shot.) If the target is new users, then experienced users
have to retool. Just like they had to when they moved from 95 to 2K and 2K
to XP.
