Microsoft should offer free/extremely cheap 'downgrades' to XP from Vista
Premium if there is a valid exuse. I mean, come on, they cant even get
stupid FLASH DRIVES to work in Vista....

You should requesting that OEMs provide that option, not Microsoft, since
licensing and distribution of OEM versions of Windows are handled by the
OEMs themselves. You can't apply this to retail versions of Windows, since
its the consumers decision to actually go in the store and buy it.

And just what, precisely, would be a valid excuse for deliberately
buying Vista when alternatives already exist?

There are a buch of things wrong:

My SP1 RC didnt install for unknown reasons, this is the 5th time I have
tried on 4 different installs of Vista x86, with all different downloads to
make sure they arent corrupt;

USB Mass Storage Errors, when a Mass Storage device is inserted on some
installs of Vista (like mine), they are detected, but fail to surface in Disk
Management or Explorer;

DirectX applications below DX10 simply run slowly or dont run at all...

SP1 RC slows down all systems I have tried it on...

No longer uses ntldr (boot.ini) making it difficult to multi-boot

Simply put, Compatibilty Issues if you have a PnP device under 1yr old....!

RC means "release candidate". This means it has not been RTM'd yet. Use at
your own risk.
USB Mass Storage Errors, when a Mass Storage device is inserted on some
installs of Vista (like mine), they are detected, but fail to surface in
Disk
Management or Explorer;

All of mine work perfectly
DirectX applications below DX10 simply run slowly or dont run at all...

See above.
SP1 RC slows down all systems I have tried it on...

Refer to meaning of "release candidate" above
No longer uses ntldr (boot.ini) making it difficult to multi-boot

Analog for this can be found in msconfig, and advanced system properties
Simply put, Compatibilty Issues if you have a PnP device under 1yr
old....!

Every PnP device I have tried on my machine works without a problem at all
