After going through activation a few too many times on the same PC, I'm going
to have to say a big "hell yes!"

I didn't pay for this to blackmail me everytime I turn around.
The SP1 RC1 was a sad attempt at humor I beleive.

Not worth the time learning this system.
I can't even begin to imagine the losses it would cost us in an engineering
environment.

If your computer is still under warranty, contact the manufacturer about
getting it downgraded to Windows XP, if that is possible.

Otherwise, you will need to purchase a Windows XP license and do a clean
install on that PC.

There is something else besides just Windows Vista if freezes
regularly
You may have incompatible hardware, bad drivers, defective hardware
etc.
Contact the manufacturer of your computer.
They sold and support the system.
If you want your $ back, return the computer for refund or exchange.
Or contact them for warranty support.

Or Toshiba, Dell as well as nearly countless local shops continue to
sell computers with Windows XP.

As for this pc , I made it in Feb and bought all the parts off ncix store and
they install the parts , So everything is Vista approved and if feb isnt too
long ago I will try tho I heard that since its Home vista I CANT exchange it
hence the posting name . Vista boils down to a few fancy but useless things .
If you got Xp be happy .

I saw your other posts and my homebuilt PC has some very similar parts: My
video card is an NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GS and I have a TSSTcorp CD/DVDW
SH-S183L SCSI CdRom Device.

With that said, I'm not sure you are going to get the quick help you want in
this forum because of the complexity of your issue. The easy fix would have
been video drivers, but they appear to be current. Without knowing the make
and model of every part (mainboard, memory, etc.) and their configuration, it
could literally be anything.

Since you've already suffered 10 months, you should try some big time
problem determination instead of tweaking here and there. Tweaking would
include things like "what is running when it locks up", "does it lock up at
the same time each day", etc.

1) Back up all your data and make sure you can restore it.
2) Go back to plain vanilla factory settings (bios, no overclock, etc.)
3) Install Vista from original Microsoft Media and do not tweak
4) Don't install anything (software or drivers) except Windows Update updates

If that system proves stable, put your non-Microsoft software on and see if
still stable. If you are still stable, tweak away.

The description of you and your system makes me think that you desire a high
performance system and your system is probably tuned and well utilized. You
may have some settings that work well for others, but for some reason or
another your system has a component that can't handle it.

Also, I assume Vista Home also has the Problem Reports and Solutions feature
like Ultimate. If so, it may tell you what barfed and why.

Good luck! You are looking at a tremendous opportunity or your worst
nightmare, depending on how much of a hobbyist you are. :)

I got Vista home premium and this piece of crap thing sucks , It freezes on
me every night since I run it 24/7 , freeze when I watch movies or tv shows
and the freaking thing freeze on me when Im playing games ! Damn this vista
really sucks. I like Xp and its better than vista . Just I got a new pc so I
thought new OS now , I want my money back and give me Xp Pro . My Hatred for
Vista grows each day .

If you're having problems with a brand new computer with an OEM
installation of the OS, you need to place the blame where it really
belongs: on the computer manufacturer's use of sub-standard components,
incompatible or poorly device drivers, or poorly designed and/or
implemented customizations to the OS.

And you have contacted the computer manufacturer for warranty support,
haven't you?

This pc isnt tweaked up by programs or anything like that . ITs mainly used
for gaming and watching Tv shows and etc .

It seem to lock up when at work around 10 to 3pm or watching tv show at
night . I get at least 2 per day . I just hating this OS and would like to
get XP and return to back to Microsoft and grab in 5 to 7 years later then
the games need Direct x 10 for it . Tho direct 10 doesnt boost the graphic
that much atm.

If possible, return the entire PC. There are problems with both XP
and Vista, it's just that I found troubleshooting is faster/easier
with XP. Movies and TV need a lot of video-processing power, even
more so with Vista.

As you describe it, it's almost certainly a hardware issue. I'd
suspect the RAM as the most likely "culprit," with the video drivers as
a second most likely cause. Start with testing the RAM. You might try

My ram is fine no errors on it . Checked with Microsoft memory test too .
Cant return the pc , since I had it build to my spec , If the parts are
working then they wouldnt replace it , if deflect then i got 1 year warr. on
most of the pc . Everything works fine but its the OS that the problem .
I see this problem or bugs with vista all over the board, This OS plainly
sucks and I want Xp in its replace . NEVER had a problem with it crashing
like this. Didnt say I didnt get the blue death screen but At least I knew
the problem was from and fix it . Vista got a long way to go . I just wish
Mircosoft would replace OS with me . They do it with the higher Vista OS ,
Will exchange with no cost at all . But the home ones , they will not do it .
BS !!

If you bought windows Vista in February, you are long past the 45 day
return period for retail products.
Your options dropped when that period ended assuming you bought retail
and not OEM.

Perhaps in your case, purchase Windows XP and hold on to or sell
Windows Vista.
This also assumes retail since OEM may not be transferable.

Ok....this was generated from Everest Ultimate Edition. As you can see, my
system has a slower processor, and less memory, yet I experience none of the
problems you mention. Have not had one BSOD. Only lock-ups or crashes
were/are from badly coded gadgets. So how exactly is it the OS, when I am
not having the problems you are? Might try looking at something other than
the OS...

Because All the program on my pc are excalty to my old pc with the exception
of newer games . Explain what could freeze my pc at night with nothing
running in the background EVERY night or going to work and it freezing or
watching media and it locks up aka freezing ! Oh crap ,It got to be the media
player at fault not the newly bug to hell crap load of boards on this
freaking problem from Screen saver to media to gaming ...

I agree with Bruce here. Since the two specific activities that are causing
problems (videos/TV and games) are video intensive, the video card / video
card driver seem of the most interest.

What is the BIOS version of your MB? The current version is 1202 and some
models of your CPU aren't supported until later versions of the BIOS.

While I agree on the video, I'm still considering your RAM. I was told by a
technician once to not use OZC RAM with my ASUS Crosshair. He made it sound
more like an global issue and not specific to my MB, but I hadn't worked with
him before and others have debunked his advice so I'm not married to it.
Howerver, OZC does not appear in ASUS's Qualified Vendors List (QVL) for RAM.
Since you are having issues, can you beg/borrow/steal some quality RAM to see
if that is the issue? With the price of RAM not what it used to be and often
generous return policies, your experiment may not cost any $$$.

Also, did I see that nVidea released a new version of video drivers? Sorry,
I can't check now, but keeping the theme of the other posts, you could try a
different video card to isolate that sub-system as well.

You might be close to a solution! :)

Mine are too, and with the exception of the frame around Paintshop, all run
with Zero problems. I don't even get the chop I used to get when rendering
under XP. Updates COULD be running in background. Did you try running some
of the programs in compatibility mode? It could be any number of things. I
mean can you explain why I don't have the same problems?
