Easy way to improve the user-friendlyness of the Vista Start Menu

the Programs section scrolls left and right for program entries that are long
winded.. take for example the "Interl(R) Software Development Tools" main
menu that when expanded also contains long names..

This results in the text menu area scrolling left and right...

it would be much nicer if the user can RESIZE the width of the start menu so
that left and right scrolling can be avoided.

Since the menu is already divided between left and right between program
files and on the right side is all the "Pictures, Control panel, etc, etc"
stuff.

simply use a sliding divider to widen the left pane.

I have tried everything I can think of to get the widths of the components of
the Vista Start Menu to change, and failed to find a way. I think your
suggestion is superb. OTOH, what I want to do is SHRINK the width a bit, to
take up less real estate. There's a huge white gap between the left-hand
lists and the right-hand fixed panel, and although shrinking the width would
also shrink the Search blank, if it scrolled as needed it would work. In
fact, the search balnk works so well on very short typed cues that it doesn't
have to be very wide to work.
