Reboot your system. For a short time the screen should be black, and then a
row of options appears near the bottom of the screen. On my Compaq desktop,
the last option is F11 System Recovery. If you press the F11 key while
these options are showing, this should bring up screens that give you some
options and walk you through the process of saving some info if you want to
and some other stuff, including doing a system restore to a state almost
like when you first booted up the system. Anything you want saved will have
to go to a thumb drive or be written to a CD or DVD. If you are unsure on
what to do, you should be able to cancel at any time before the actual
system recovery actually stops. Take notes and post what you have done and
what you see and your question about how to get from there to your goal.
You may be able to get to system restore points or to a full system
recovery.
