Hey guys,

Im running Windows Vista Premium on my HP desktop that I just bought a month
ago, its 2.80ghz with 3gb RAM and I cant install updates. When I go to
"Windows Update" n try to install updates It says - "Error(s) found: Code
80004002." I have also tried to install KB936782 n KB929399 update packages
from Microsoft but I get the same problem: "Installer encountered an error:
0x80004002, No such interface supported" I am really stressed out, any help
would be appreciated.

thnx

You could try this:

Right-click Command Prompt (in Start Menu\Programs\Accessories) and choose
Run as Administrator. Type (or Copy and Paste) the following commands,
pressing Enter after each one:

regsvr32 wuapi.dll

regsvr32 wuaueng.dll

regsvr32 wups.dll

regsvr32 wups2.dll

regsvr32 wuwebv.dll

regsvr32 wucltux.dll

Close Command Prompt, and try Windows Update again.

I did try that mate but only the "regsvr32 wuapi.dll" works. The rest give me
an error saying: The module "wuaueng.dll" was loaded but the call to
DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005.

The error value ‘0x80070005’ means ‘Access Denied’. Did you right-click
Command Prompt (in Start Menu\Programs\Accessories) and choose Run as
Administrator? (Don't use Run).

Yes I am the Administrator.

Yes I did right click and chose "Run as Administrator" and the files dean
described did work but still the Windows Update is giving me the same error.

Hey Dean,

Thanks that did solve the prob, however, now I get a new error(s) code:
800B0100

Have you tried the updates one at a time? That is, try un-checking all of
them except one and see if it installs; then try the next, and so on (to see
if one is blocking the others)...

If this works, which update(s) remain with the error code?

I dont even get that far. I click on Windows Update and then "Check for
updates" and then I get: Windows could not search for new updates. Error(s)
found: Code 800B0100.

After you told me to do this:

Right-click Command Prompt (in Start Menu\Programs\Accessories) and choose
Run as Administrator. Type (or Copy and Paste) the following commands,
pressing Enter after each one:

regsvr32 wuapi.dll

regsvr32 wuaueng.dll

regsvr32 wups.dll

regsvr32 wups2.dll

regsvr32 wuwebv.dll

regsvr32 wucltux.dll

Close Command Prompt, and try Windows Update again.

It worked but now I get this new error 800B0100 instead of 80004002.

So, since Monday of this week you've been to that site and revalidated?
Like I said, there was an issue and many people who had been previously
validated have to re-validate.

Try registering some more files (again, running Command Prompt as
Administrator):

regsvr32 softpub.dll

regsvr32 wintrust.dll

regsvr32 rsaenh.dll

regsvr32 mssip32.dll

regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll

regsvr32 dssenh.dll

Open the Start Menu and click on your user picture. Temporarily turn of UAC
for your account. Then try the standalone packages you tried before for
KB936782 and KB929399 again, but this time right-click on the
Windows6.0-KB929399-x86.msu and Windows6.0-KB936782-x86.msu files, and
choose Properties. On the General tab of the two files, Click on Unblock,
then Apply, and OK. Then open them. Do they install?

Try windows Update again.

You can talk to MS Support and they will talk you through many
processes to fix the problem. Eventually you need the install DVD and
do a repair-install which takes 6 hours. It replaces all the Windows
files.

I only have Recovery Disks.....will I be able to repair through them??

UAC is User Account Control.

Basically, I'm trying to figure out what's borked on your Computer regarding
Windows Update. That is, whether it's a registry problem or whether it's a
permission problem. Here's my last shot for registering files (which can do
no harm):

regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml6.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll

If things still don't work, it may be helpful for you to Copy and Paste the
latest entry in C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log, towards the end of the log
(for example, the entries starting with 2007-08-30), to see more info on
what may be causing it to fail.

I found that if I switched of my Anti Virus before doing the update the
error messages stopped and everything installed OK. Was using Bit
Defender.

I am having the same experience. I spoke to Microsoft Support and the
answer I got was that there were no fixes for Microsoft Office and the
problem would go away when there were. I gave up that day.

I have sucessfully run all of the regsvr32 commands listed above,
disabled my Norton Anti-virus software and ran the Windows update as
administrator with no sucess.

I am not going to rebuild my system from scratch. I have already done
that once because of an Outlook problem and my issues with Windows
update started on that date.

Any help would be appreciated.
