Vista 64-bit installation

I re-installed Vista 64-bit on my Dell XPS computer, but I ran into some
problems. When the computer first restarts during the installation the system
not restart, I would get a black screen, the fans running at low speed. I had
to hold the power button down to restart it. The installation continued
normal but every time the system wanted to restart I had to "help" it. I
tried a new installation but I got the same results. The computer works fine
except the shut down or restart functions. Sometimes it shuts down, sometimes
it needs "help", reminds me of the Windows 98 fiasco. Can someone help?

I have a second question; how can I convince the IE to open a site that I
listed as “Trusted Site Like www.time.gov. I get an error message “Unknown

Not sure what your problem is, but that site won't work properly unless you
install Java 1.6 beta and use the 32-bit version of IE

Thank you for your suggestions, I will try them tonight..
Thanks again for the good advice, I can now get the time in "real time"
using 64-bit IE and Java Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_09-b03).
The ONLY thing I need to do now is to teach VISTA 64-bit to Turn Off or
Restart reliably everytime I want it. Any suggestions?

I had that with my x86 installation. I got this intuitive thought to wait it
out. It took about five minutes but it shut down by itself and in less and
less time after that.
I had a hang problem with my x64 installation until I disabled a couple of
devices that didn't have drivers. That's probably it for your situation. Hope
this helps.

I tried to to "wait it out" but it did not take my bluff, next morning it was
still hanging tight. I did not see any warnings on the Device Manager page,
thus I assume all my devices have drivers and they work. I will check it
again!
