Windows Live services and 64 bit Vista...

I have a 64 bit implementation of Vista Ultimate. I have been using the
Windows Live apps, mail and messenger, for a few weeks. The XP Pro machine
that I have been running MSN Explorer on finally gave up the ghost and I
switched it out with the new 64 bit machine.

This morning I downloaded and installed MSN without event. The "event"
occurred when I restarted the machine.

Immediately upon Vista starting up I get an error message saying that
windows has encountered a serious error -- it doesn't say what -- and that
it will shut down in one minute. Almost simultaneously I get another
message saying that there is a newer version of MSN Messenger available and
asking me if I wanted to upgrade. It didn't matter of course because by the
time I read the message and pondered on why I would get it -- remember, I
have the latest Windows Live Messenger -- the machine would automatically
re-boot.

I finally had to force it to boot in safe mode and remove MSN. That took
care of the error and I'm back stable again.

My question is "Should I be able to run MSN Explorer -- I like it,
especially the photo sharing -- on a 64 bit Vista Ultimate platform?

If the answer is yes, does anyone have any similar experience and know how
to resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance,

Howard

Try microsoft.public.msn.discussion. I had a similar experience with the
32-bit version of Vista. I think that MSN in general suffers from lack of
maintenance and attention at Microsoft development. You might also try MSN
Support http://support.msn.com. You should at least qualify for email
support and phone or chat if you have a paid account. MSN "should" work
with the latest Windows Live Messenger, but many things "should" work.

Thanks. I'll check with the MSN folks.
