View Source - tried usual

View source doesn't work. I've viewed past threads and cleared TIF, lowered
the file size and checked if notepad is on desktop & checked registry, DWORD
is set at 0. Anyone have any other suggestions on how to restore view source?
TIA, Sharon

Hi Sharon :)

It would also help if we knew which version of Windows and IE you are using
(IE6 SP! or SP2).
Also, are you getting any error messages? If so, what is the exact wording?
In what way is the Source not working? Some details on that would also
help. :)

You might also try the following in the mean time to see if it helps:

Source Code Is Not Displayed When You Click Source on the View Menu in
Internet Explorer

Hope this helps

So sorry. IE6 SP2 and XP Pro (no SP2). No error messages, just nothing
happens when you click 'view source'.
Thanks

Thank you for the information :)

Although you have already renamed the notepad, also try the following and
see if this will helps:

Check for the file notepad.exe in the following paths and delete them:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\
C:\Documents and Settings\<Your user profile>\Desktop\
* Make sure if notepad.exe exists in the system
* Restore Notepad as Default View Source Editor (Line 183) in
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

also....

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

I tried the things listed on your link but still can't view source (I
restarted Windows after trying everything). Don't get an error message it
just doesn't 'do' anything after clicking on view source. Wonder if I should
uninstall IE6 and reinstall? I'm out of ideas and quite frustrated!

Hi Sharon :)

You can not uninstall IE from your XP, as it is a core part of the program.
You can, however, reinstall and.or repair.

However, you might try extracting a new notepad.exe file to replace the
current one, as it may be corrupted. Try the following first and see if it
will help:

How to extract files in Windows 95 98 Me 2000 XP
http://service1.symantec.com/support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001011114021106

If still no joy, then you should try the repair first. If that does not
clear the problem, then you can try the reinstall. Here are the
instructions for both:

How do I repair Internet Explorer in Windows XP?
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_ie_reinstall.htm

How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows
XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378/EN-US/

But, before repairing IE6 SP2 you will have to remove Windows XP Service
Pact 2 from Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Then use the last
method in this article, or the following:

How to remove Windows XP Service Pack 2 from your computer

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=875350

If by chance the files needed for a repair from the Add/Remove Programs are
not available, you can use the XP startup disk to add the components to the
computer, or the following:

How To Add or Remove a Windows Component in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=307894

If these steps do not resolve your problem, or you need help with the above,
please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.
