Video Capture to MM 2 via ieee 13984 firewire,

C

Chcuk-Spencer

I have posted the following firewire capture problem a
couple times before and tried different suggestions by
this newsgroup with no solutions . This is a very
confusing problem and I don't see another problem posted
that is similar to mine. I will try to explain as
follows: I'm not an expert with computer technology , as
you can see, but trying.

First of all I purchased the ZR85 Cannon Camcorder ( from
DEll ) and was told that I would need the ieee 1394
firewire card and cable to capture video from my
camcorder into Movie Maker II for editing, etc. I also
purchased the card and cable. I installed the card and
cable and from what I understand from Dell's limited tech
support that it was installed correctly. They directed
me to Device Manager and it seems computer recognized
card and cable. No question marks, etc beside name in
device mananger.

Problem:

When trying to capture audio and video into Movie Maker
II software I am getting a scrambled, distorted video in
catpure window. Audio is coming through. It seems to be
downloading the way it should, rewinds tape in my
camcorder, etc, but the above problem exists. I was told
by someone in this newsgroup to try Windv ( free
software ) which I did and the same problem exist. I
have downloaded Microsoft SP 2 which includes Movie Maker
II for the second time. Took about 6 hours to download
What is really confusing about this problem is, I can
download photos, transitions and video effects from MM
back to my camcorder with no problem. What is going
on ???
I don't think there is anything wrong with card or cable
otherwise how could I get video back into camcorder.
Anyone with any solution suggestions, comments, etc.,
will be greatly appreciated. I am exhausted !!!!!!!
Where are you PaPa John ???????

Note: It doesn't sound like it is the software either,
because it is unlikely that both MM and Windv would do
the same thing. What else is there, some sort of setting
on camcorder or in software ??? Help !!!!!!!!! Thank
everyone for their time. My Email is (e-mail address removed).

Hi Chuck --

According to the documentation on their website, WinDV is built on top of
Dshow (just like Movie Maker.)
So my guess is you *are* looking for something they have in common. like :
1. A Dshow filter that Movie Maker and WinDV both use (Like MSDV.SYS)
2. A Dshow filter that is installed on your PC and is erroneously
getting added to the capture graph .

I've got a ZR-85 in-house, and I can capture from it on XPSP2 without issue.
But all that means is that the problem you're experienceing isn't a simple
case of the camera being broken with respect to the base components
installed on XPSP2.

Have you upgraded to XPSP2 already? If you haven't, then that would be the
first thing I would try.

If you have upgraded to XPSP2 and the problem still exists, then I know few
things we can try to attempt to identify the problem.
Fair waring --they involve installing software (grapedit), and possibly
replacing system files on your PC. Write back and let me know how
adventurous you are feeling...

Cheers!

file it state unknown error has occurred.
