VCR to CAM to Firewire to DV-AVI file?

I'm trying to capture VCR video output via my Camcorder DV to firewire, and
can get picture and sound on my Vista PC. Capturing the video to a file is
proving harder.

Will Movie Maker 6 let me capture the video pass through signal? When I try,
it always seems to start the camcorder, override the VCR signal.

Regards,
Ian

I've now solved this. Simply remove the tape from the Camcorder, and Movie
Maker won't try to control it.

Although my preview did not include sound, the resulting captured video did.

I, too, have been capturing successfully from a Betamax VCR, passing through
a Digicam Firewire to my PC. Was wondering if anyone has solved the lack of
sound issue during the capture process. It's obvious this is simply a
hardware "monitoring" issue of some kind, as the captured data plays back
with both video and audio.
Thanks!

When I use that exact same setup; VCR>DIGICAM>FIREWIRE>PC the only way I can
hear sound *during* the transfer is to open up the LCD screen on the cam.
As soon as I do that, the audio plays through the camera speaker. If I
leave the LCD closed, I can still see the video by looking thru the
eyepiece, but there's no audible audio even though as in your case, the
audio makes it to the PC just fine either way. I'm using a Canon Mini-DV
digicam. Yours may not work the same way but it's worth a try.
