video capture device not detected !

Hi,
I need help. I got a IEEE 1394 card installed in my computer, got the right cable .. plugged everything .. but when I open Windows Movie Maker 2 .. and try to "capture a video" .. it tells me that there is no video capture device detected ..
please tell me what I have to do ..

The cam is turned on and in playback/vcr mode before turning on MM2.
Is the card listed as working ok in device manager? Do you get the xp ping
when you connect the camcorder to the pc, to say new hardware recognised? If
yes, can you then view it in device manager? If not, can you try another
cable to ensure there sin't a problem with that. Or try a known to work
cable and cam on your pc, if this works then we know the pc is conigured
correctly, then try your cam and cable on a known to work pc and see if it
works there, if not it'll be faulty cable of cam 1394 port.

In addition to Graham's suggestions, ensure that the camera is NOT powered
from its battery but A/C unit. I have come across several different digital
camcorders that will not export when on battery power.
