Very strange. Windows Update Service

Anytime I go to the system properties to the Automatic Updates page,
it says the Windows Update Service is Unavailable.
If I close it and go immediately back, then I get all the status
information and settings.

Very weird. What could be causing this?

PS I don't think Auto Update is actually working properly.

Thoughts...
1) Site may be busy due to all the hubbub about XP service pack 2.
2) Make sure that you have Automatic Update and the Time Synchronization
services enabled.

I ran into similar problems with the AutoUpdate site when using a slow time
server and Windows had not been able to successfully synchronize time for
quite a while. I entered a different time server in Control Panel>
Date/Time> Internet Time and the problem was rectified.

Why is Time Synchronization necessary?
