Verizon port 25

This is FYI; this is not a request for help.

I just got a call on my cell phone from Verizon notifying me that I need to
change my Verizon email account settings before April 27. I don't know if
that deadline applies for all Verizon (FiOS?) customers but it seems to be a
drop-dead date of some kind. This is totally expected by those familiar with
email. The only thing unexpected is that Verizon is at least doing more than
most to notify us. In the automated message, they say to look at:

http://verizon.net/port25

Which redirects to:

http://www22.verizon.com/Residentia...Support/Top+Questions/QuestionsOne/124274.htm

It essentially says that if we use a client such as Windows Mail to send a
third party email account message, we must use port 587.

So it is more than a month away, but there might be some queries in this
group at that time. Hopefully Verizon will notify the customers enough that
there won't be many people looking for help.

Thanks for that information.
Verizon is one of the last of the big ISPs to be dropping support for port 25.
AT&T and most of Comcast did so much earlier.

I've used port 587 since last September (at least) for my Verizon DSL (port
25 never worked). Could be a regional change (I'm mid-Atlantic) just
catching up with that customer or anyone who's not already switched. Or,
perhaps it is special notification for Verizon cellular users who use their
e-account via their cell phone. I've not received an email or call
regarding the "drop dead date" (not a Verizon cellular user).

Yes, it could be regional. I am west-coast.
