Cant' send or recieve emails

Kris

First of all my email settings for all three email alias's were checked by a
verizon tech where they had control of my computer. I have NOT chnged
anything except the port # that went out in an email from verizon. I get this
issue ALL THE TIME and I am tired of not being able to recieve mail or send
it. This is the message I have right now when I hit send/recieve:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'Re:
herbalife', Account: 'incoming.verizon.net (1)', Server:
'outgoing.verizon.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.7.1
Authentication is required to send mail as <[email protected]>', Port:
587, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

keep in mind the "rejected" email this is referring to is NOT used for the
subject herbalife. If there anybody who can help me? This is an issue that
happens constantly and verizon is alwaystelling me nothingis wrong with my
connections.

Don't put too much faith in your Verizon so-called " tech ".
Here is an excerpt from Verizon account set-up link :

Notes:
At this time (08/09) Verizon supports POP3/SMTP on ports 110/25 only.
SSL encrypted ports are not available.
Verizon email help

***** Meaning, port #587 appears to be incorrect.*******

Here is the link. If you are using Windows Mail, use the Outlook Express
instructions. It's the same.
READ step #8 of the instructions...... most important !!! That answers your
error message about " authentication is required ".

Boy that was quick. Thanks so much. I gave up on verizons ability to give
decent tech support a long time ago I never have faith that they can
permently fix anything.
I will try your suggestions and probably be back here again in the very near
future.
Thanks again.

FYI . . . . My verizon.net account sends on port 587 and receives on port
110 (just tested / verified) . . . . .
Settings are:
General Tab: User Info = My name and full email address are entered; CHECK
in "Include this acct when receive mail or sync"
Servers Tab: Incoming mail srvr is a POP3 srvr; Incoming mail (POP3) =
incoming.verizon.net; Outgoing mail (SMTP) = outgoing.verizon.net; email
user name = my user name (ONLY first part of e-address before @); CHECK in
"My srvr requires authentication; CLICK on "Settings" button - Logon using =
my user name (only first part of e-address before @) - NO CHECKS ANYWHERE);
Advanced Tab: Outgoing (SMTP) = 587; Incoming (POP3) = 110; NO CHECKS
ANYWHERE (No SSL on either)

Hope this helps if you're not yet fixed !

Your settings are OK except for one:
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
Enable the "My server requires authentication" option.

Verizon spends their money on advertising.
