USING RULES

Rules wizzard currently does not allow for completely "moving" messages. Once a rule is setup a message is copied to a specified folder and not completely moved. Is there a function to setup in Oulook that when a message arrives to inbox or is sent that a specific rule completely moves it to another folder?

You dont't say which version of Outlook you are using, but this is certainly
possible in Outlook 2000 which I have. Use Tools/Rules Wizard and select
new. Select "check messages when they arrive" and click Next. The select the
condition you require and click Next. Then select "Permanently delete it".

Are you sure you want this, however? You may end up deleting a message you
actually wanted due to the rule you have set up.

Hope this helps,
Martin

Hi Martin

Saw your message reply on the net, ref outlook rules. Can you advise on this…? I have Outlook 2000. I have set up a rule to send incoming mail to one of two possible folders, depending upon which account the mail had been addressed to. This rule works fine most of the time, but sometimes a message will come in, to either of the two accounts, but rather than be sent to the correct folder, it just sits there in the inbox, as though no rule is being applied. If I then go to modify the rule, but change nothing other than to add a tick to the box that says ‘apply rule to any mail currently in the inbox’ then the rule is put into action, and the mail goes where it is meant to. Why is this rule not consistently accurate? Any ideas

Thanks

Ala

Kenan,
I cannot answer for Outlook 2003 as I have the 2000 version as previously
stated.

Are you sure that you followed the instructions I gave correctly as the
'Permanently delete it' option is on the 3rd part of the dialogue:

ie,
1) Enter the type of rule you want to create - click Next
2) Which condition do you want to check - click Next
3) What do you want to do with the message.

The Permanently delete option is the third one down on the dialogue at (3).

If it is really not there, then I cannot help further. Hopefully someone
else can help that has Outlook 2003.

Alan,
Are any other rules being applied to the messages that are not moved. If so,
have you set the 'Stop processing more rules' option on the third dialogue
when setting up a rule. If so, then maybe the rule was activated and the
rule to move the message was therefore not run.

Probably a bit unlikely, but worth checking out.

Hope this helps.
