using an old printer with XP

I was trying to use an old printer (Epson LQ-570+) that I used with windows
3.1! on a different computer. When I try to update the drivers it just won't
find the printer.

Microsoft does not write drivers for old printers. If Epson
elected not to provide a downloadable driver designed for
Windows XP, your issue is with Epson and not Microsoft.

Do you mean it can't find the drivers online? Have you checked on
Epson's website or provided another means for Windows to find them.

Digitally signed versions come with the XP operating system.

Open your Control Panel and click on the "Add Hardware" icon.
The "Add Hardware Wizard" will appear.

1. Click on Next and place a dot next to "Yes, I have already connected the hardware".
2. Click Next and scroll all the way down to "Add a new hardware device".
3. Click once to highlight it and click Next.
4. Place a dot next to "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)".
5. Click Next and scroll down to "Printers", click once to highlight and click Next.
6. Place a dot next to "Use the following port" and click Next.
7. In the "Install Printer Software Screen", on the left side scroll down to "Epson"
and click once to highlight, then on the right-side scroll down to
"Epson LQ-570+ ESC/P 2", click on it to highlight and click Next to install the drivers.

Windows XP should have that printer listed in the list of printers to
install. I just checked on mine and I do have it listed in the printer list.
How are you trying to add the printer? If you go to Start/Printers and Fax.
Then click on Add a Printer on the Left side. Do you have it connected to
LPT1 port?
