user account

I'm trying to create a user account e.g. 'xyz' but get the error this
account already exists. but I can't find 'xyz' or any reference to it
anywhere .Any suggestions please

i think it's something to do with a remote computer that used to be networked
to this.
remote comp had a user account of 'xyz' on it. but don't know where that
info is stored on this pc??
