USB2 ports run a 1.1 speed

I've recently gotten a new rig - Acer, which purports to have USB2
ports.
However, the speed is at 1.1. XP says that there are no hi-speed ports

installed. I have checked out the drivers and they are, indeed,
standard usb
drivers, not enhanced ones. There is no mobo disk only a system
recovery set
of disks. I do not want to wipe out my system, if possible

Here's what I've done already:
Made sure that my Media Center 2005 OS has SP2 installed.
Run Windows update several times - all updates are current.
Uninstalled all usb hubs, controllers, etc. and rebooted - still 1.1
drivers. (did this several times)
Checked that the usbehci.sys file is in system32\drivers folder -- it
is,
although the current driver is usbhub.sys and I don't know how to
change it
to usbehci.sys.
Gone to the Acer website - they have no USB2 drivers to download.
Attempted to contact Acer - they will not respond.
Attempted to contact the dealer - they will not respond.
Attempted to match the Acer mobo description - FC51GM - to the Foxconn

website to see if I can identify the specific mobo. - no luck
Attempted to contact Foxconn - they will not respond.
Asked on several tech sites with all the above information.
They respond with suggestions that I have already tried and told
them I
tried.

Unless I can find an answer here it seems as if my only alternative is
to
try and RMA the whole rig.

I really need some help. And, not to offend anyone, please do not
suggest
any of the things is the list above that I have already tried.
Thank you.
Sounds like a BIOS issue, go to acer web site and download bios
updates. Check usb settings in BIOS

An interesting new development. With nothing left to lose prior to my
RMA-ing the rig, I took an old PCI 4-port USB2.0 add-on card and stuck it in
the Acer. When I started it up, to my surprise it installed an enhanced
USB2.0 controller for the CARD. I tested the card with my external drive and
it transfers at USB2.0 speeds.

I tested the external drive on two of the four factory installed rear ports
and they also work at 2.0 speeds. The factory installed card reader, at least
the CF slot, also transfers a high speed. Interestingly enough, the FRONT
USB ports still only work at USB1.1 speeds. Device Manager shows two
controllers installed - one enhanced and one standard.

This sounds like a freakish hardware situation. I think I'm going to leave
the card in and just use an USB extension cable for the two front slots.
It's not ideal, but I now have 80% USB functionality.

If anyone still has the masochistic patience to read this, thank you!

have USB 2.0 on only some of the ports You might check the
ACER specs.
