Problem with USB2

I have a PC with Asus A7V266-EX motherboard, AMD Athlon processor and
512 MB RAM. This board has 4 USB1 onboard ports. I have added a PCI
USB2 board with the Via 6202 chipset and 4 USB2 ports. I am running XP
SP2 with the latest Via USB drivers.

My problem is that periodically the USB2 ports will shut down and then
come upo again. e.g. if I connect a USB hard drive, it will run for a
few minutes and then I will get a message that the drive is not
available or something to that effect.

Can USB 1 and 2 both run on the same computer?

Any help on how to overcome this will be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes they can run quite happily together... IF the power supply is adequate.

In Device Manager, under the USB entry, find each individual hub's entry and
right click and select Properties. From the Power Management tab, disable
the option to hibernate the device to save power.

Thanks a lot.

The power supply is adiquate, I have 400W for a basic system which
should need only 300W by calculation.

It seems to work but I will try it for some more time and revert if
there is still a problem.

Best regards
