How to Check for High Speed USB (USB 2.0) Support.
The Keyword is Enhanced.

Open the Device Manager...
Start | Run | Type: devmgmt.msc | Click OK |
Click on [+] Universal Serial Bus controllers |

If your Device Manager shows an ENHANCED USB Host Controller, the system has
High Speed USB (USB 2.0) capability.

The key word is ENHANCED. If you have an ENHANCED USB Host Controller then
you have High Speed USB (USB 2.0)

All other types are USB v.1.1

Open Device Manager and look to see if the USB is listed as
Enhanced, which means USB 2.0.
You can also download the Belarc Advisor www.belarc.com and
get a report on the computer and installed software.

Click START button|RUN and in the box type "msinfo32" (no quotes) <enter>

Click the COMPONENTS + sign, then the USB branch. Look at the list of entries.
If you see one that refers to "enhanced", then the PC has high-speed 2.0
support.

Certainly. Look in the manual that came with the computer, or on the
manufacturer's web site.

Hi Wesley: thank's for your super quick reply! I did as you said and
under DEVICE MANAGER, HARDWARE, there is listed ENHANCED USB Host
Controller. But in addition, there are 12 other usb devices,
controllers, listed. How do I know if the Iomega External Hard Drive
is connected to the USB 2 hardware or controller? Is there a speed
test available on the internet or other location that would measure
speed as a USB device is operating?

best, Aaron

Get MS UVCView:

It show what are the USB devices connected to.

Easy. Take a USB2 device. Plug it in. See if you get a warning
about a high speed device on a low speed port. No warning = USB2.
Warning = USB1 or 1.1.
