Win xp pro, gigabyte MB with 4 on board, and 4 by wire usb ports.

Problem- plug in USB 2 device and message 'this device would work
faster
in a usb 2 port, click for a list of available ports' appears. On
clicking
8 usb 2 ports are detailed.
So far I have 1. Removed all usb devices. 2. Formated the HD. 3.
Removed and refitted the CMOS battery. 4. Upgraded to the latest Bios.
5. Ensured USB 2 enabled in bios. 6. Updated the chipset info. 7.
Reloaded xp (SP2). 8. loaded the USB 2 device software and pluged in
the device.

Still the same. Loads as a USB 1.

Tried another USB device. The same.

Device manager says 4 universal host controlers at 2658,2658,265A,265B,

Enhanced host controler at 265C, and 5 USB root hubs.

I'm already bald so that saves time.

Any Help or suggestions much appreciated.

Are there any motherboard drivers for your board that may contain USB
drivers. I know there was for mine (not gigabyte) came on the CD.

Not sure that this will help but worth mentioning just in case.

Are you sure all of your USB ports are USB2? I have seen some motherboards
that have USB1 only on back and USB2 normally cabled to the front of the
case. Check your motherboard manual and/or try a different set of ports.

I've got a Gigabyte MB too. Gigabyte has a USB patch available for some MB's
that have this problem. It can be located on your MB drivers and
installation disk. If you don't have that you could try going to the
Gigabyte site and searching for your MB - and then seeing if the patch is
available for it there. If so, that may help.
