Im not sure what do???? I have a motorola phone which I take photos with and
Im trying to upload them onto my computer but I keep getting a connections
error. I also have a digital camera and have tried getting my photos of it as
well but it tells me that there is no memory card in the camera, which there
is.
I recently had my computer upgraded, prior to this I could do easy! What
could be missing?
My modem and printer both read the usb port, so I don't think it's a port
issue?
If anyone can help I will be very grateful. Thankyou

Did you install the drivers or any needed software for the devices?

Have you been able to upload from the camera and phone to the computer before?

Have you checked in Device Manager to see if there are any conflicts with the
devices?

Where are you connecting the cables, in the front or back USB ports?

Are you connecting the devices as specified by the manufcaturer?

Hi Brian
Thanks for helping me out,
I used to be able to get the pictures easily then I took my computer in to
get a new mother board and other updates.
I used to use the side USB ports , but since getting the computer back there
are also USB at the back. I have tried all available slots to no avail.
I have installed the software for both devices and in the device manager I
can't see any conflicts! What should I be looking for? Should I have the
camera in the usb then go to device manager? There is no conflicts with plug
and play that I can see?
Thanks Rebecca

This is only so I'm clear on things and know we're on the same page.
You mention " I have tried all available slots to no avail." I take it you also
tried the ones the printer and/or modem are connected to, correct? If not do so
to verify if it is/not not a cable or device problem.

If it's not a cable/device problem, the ports that aren't being used may be
disabled or not connected to the headers on the motherboard. I wouldn't think
they'd not connect them though, but I have seen dumber.

Or it could be that the drivers are not installed for the devices. And to be
on the same page, did you or did you not install the drivers when you mentioned
"I have installed the software for both devices".

What's the make/model of the camera?

Have a look in DM under USB Controllers and see if there is a USB 2 Enhanced
Controller listed or not.

Go ahead and attach the camera and go to DM.
On the Menu Bar click View > Devices by Connection.
Expand the tree starting with the names Multiprocessor PC or Uniprocessor PC.
Expand ACPI Compliant.
Expand PCI Bus.
Expand any/all USB Host Controllers.
If your camera is listed as a device in any then:
On the Menu Bar click Action > Scan for Hardware Changes.

Post back with the results while I check up on the camera.

Hi Brian,
Yes I tried to use te usb's that the printer is connected to which is the
usb on the side of the tower and the one the modem is connected into which is
the back USB slot, neither worked.
I used my installation disks that come with my mobile and camera does that
atomatically install the correct drivers. My computer recognises the camera
and phone when I plug them in, however it just won't read the memory cards on
either. Very strange. Down in the bottom corner when you go to safely remove
the hardware they are listed if they are plugged in.
I tried to look under USB in device manager however all I could see on mine
was COM PORT1 AND PRINTER PORT LPT1 nothing else. No DM sorry.
If I take my printer out of one of the ports and put it into another port
the printer will work out of them all.
My camera is a NIKON COOLPIX4300.
Thankyou so much for help.
The computer is under warranty still from when the guys did the upgrade for
me so if worse comes to worse I will take it back in.
Would just like to get my pictures out to people.
Thankyou again Rebecca

Have you opened Explorer and expanded the Camera to see if you can open any
folder/file/picture? If you can see the pictures, double click one to see if it
opens.

I don't belive you looked where I mentioned, and as for DM, it's short for
Device Manager.

Once again, go ahead and attach the camera and go to DM.

On the Menu Bar in DM click View > Devices by Connection.
Expand the tree starting with the names Multiprocessor PC or Uniprocessor PC.

You may want to do that, only take the camera and phone with so they can see
what's actually happening.

Thankyou again Rebecca

You're welcome.

Hi Brian,
How are you? I realised what DM meant after I posted the thread and that you
would think I was a goose! Which I am.
Anyway, my hardware wasn't listed in any of the places that you recommended
I look in the DM, also there were no conflicts with any of the devices.
Thankyou Rebecca.

Maybe try plugging the camera and/or phone into a different computer -
just to be sure they will work? Also, if a new motherboard was installed
when you had it upgraded, check the manufacturer's website for updated
drivers, and possibly even a BIOS update. It's a very strange
problem..... One more thing, do you have a USB flash drive (jump drive,
thumb drive, etc) available? If so, try it and see if your computer
reads that.

Good luck

Again, did you see if the photos could be dragged/dropped from the camera in
Explorer or MyComputer.
Right click on the desktop.
Click New > Folder in the popup menu.
Type a name and press Enter.
Open Explorer.
Click the + next to Mycomputer to expand the tree, or if it's already expanded:
Is the camera listed? If so:
Click the + next to your camera.
Click the + next to any folder.
Can you see your pictures in a folder of the camera? If so:
Click on the first picture once to hilite it.
Scroll to the last picture, hold down the CTRL key and click on the last
picture. All of the pictures should now be hilit.
Press CTRL+C to copy the pictures to the clipboard.
Close Explorer.
Double click on the newly created folder on the desktop to open it.
Click once inside the folder.
Press CTRL+V to paste the pictures.

If the above worked, you need to install the Picture Project Transfer software
for the camera.
Install it from the supplied CD or download the latest version from:

If the above did not work, do you have any mapped drives? If you do see:

Hit send by accident.
Also download/install the latest firmware:

According to Nikon docs for your camera:
<quote>
Connecting to a Computer
Before copying pictures to your computer, you will need to install Nikon View,
an application that allows you to transfer pictures from the
camera memory card to a computer hard disk and view them on the computer
monitor. Once you have installed Nikon View, you are ready to transfer
photographs and movies to your computer. Pictures can be transferred via a
direct USB connection between the camera and computer. If your computer has
built-in USB interface, you can connect it to your camera using the UC-E1 cable
provided.
