Remove a Ghost USB device or disable to warning bubble.

I am running Windows XPHome Sp2. I have created ghost devices on the front
two USB ports. These ports were only used for short time connections,
cameras and the like. I have tried to delete them in device manager but
windows finds and installs them again and hence the USB Device Not Recognized
warning bubble which will not go away. Startup in safe mode still lists the
Unknown devices. Removing and deleting the two printers attached to the rear
USB ports and reinstalling still brings up the two ghosts. I think these
ghost were created when power interuptions during photo uploads shut down the
system. System restore was also effected and could not restore prior to this
incident. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Go with the flow. Use Device Manager to 'disable' the devices. There is a
checkbox for that at the bottem of the Properties page for the device.

I may not have explained the problem fully. When I disable the ghosts in
this way, windows advises "found new hardware" and re-installs it. It then
continues to report "Usb device not recognized etc..." Thanks for your
suggestion Mark.
