usb use causes lock ups

All worked fine before but now when I connect my I-pod, magic-jack phone, or
usb storage drive to any usb port it causes the computer to freeze. I have to
shut down and restart and all works fine except the usb's. I do have a usb
printer, and multiple cameras that i connect through USB and they work fine.
Any idea's??

Been using everything together( I-pod, magic-jack, usb storage) for about 2
months now. Everything worked fine. Then for no obvious reason it started to
lock up. Never had a problem with USB's till now.

Restart your computer with nothing other than your monitor, mouse and
keyboard connected. It would be best to use an old-school wired mouse
and keyboard. Does the problem still occur?

If not, attach one new item at a time and test. (If you have peripherals
that use the parallel or serial port you'll have to power off before you
attach them.) The idea is to find out which peripheral causes the problem.
