Up until about a week ago whenever I plugged in my
Pendrive (flash storage) or SanDisk reader for digital
camera disks, WindowsXP assigned a drive letter and I was
able to access the drives. All of a sudden I get error
messages when I plug them in. WindowsXP starts the new
hardware wizard and I get the message "cannot install the
device the service is not installed" (or close to this).
The devices will show up in the DevMgr with the yellow
exclamation point and the error code 28 (drivers not
installed). I've tried everything I can find from the
knowledge base but nothing really addresses this issue
exactly.
I have checked disk management and only the c: and CD-rom
drives appear - nothing for the USB devices. Also, I have
tested the devices on another computer and they install
perfectly - definately something in my system. Please
help, I'm going crazy trying to access my files.
Thanks.
