USB Devices not recognized

I have a similar problem as jojo (02/01/05) in that My Computer does not
recognize USB devices (external hard drives, Mass Storage Devices). I
followed Peter's advise going through disk mgmt. and formatting the drive.
In disk mgmt. it shows the device and assigns a drive letter, but when I go
back to My Computer it still doesn't appear. Strangely enough, when I first
plugged the device into the USB port the ballon on my desktop popped up and
indicated that the device was installed and ready to use. Great! Where is
it?
