USB Problems

Hi, Just a bit of a follow up from my other posts about this subject today.
I have tried to start afresh by uninstalling all drivers and hardware. I
have then reinstalled the driver and then the hardware ( a PCI to USB2 host
card. The box says Sohousb, Dynamode and the card is an ALI M5273) When i
look in the device manager I have 2 Universal Serial Bus Controller drop
downs. One with the Ali host controler and USB 2 Root Hub. The other has
lots of original USB controllers and root hubs (3 of earch) and also 3 ALi
PCI to USB Host Controller and one Intel USB 2 Enhanced Host Controller -
24CD

When I add any hardware to the USB2 ports windows will not recognise it. I
am really stuck.
Cheers
Lenny

It is a much better practice to keep the discussion in one thread rather
than spread it across serveral.

The card may be defective. Try it in a different machine.

It may also be a BIOS setting or incompatibility and you might need to
update the BIOS. Check with the manufacturer of your system for BIOS
updates and if there are any USB2 issues resolved with them. I do not
recommend flashing the BIOS unless it is going to fix your problem
though, and if you do you then should have the PC powered through a UPS
to avoid the possibility of a power failure during the flash process.

thanks for that. I have come to the conclusion that it is the Bios. I don't
know what board it is but I will look in the morning. If it is the bios I
think that I will live with the USB1.1 ports. Sorry about discussion
spreading across the threads,

Good luck, and please keep us posted. As I indicated, I would be very
careful about a BIOS flash procedure but that was not meant to say do
not do it at all, if it solves your problem then you definitely should
do it. Just do it right and make sure you don't lose power while it's
flashing. Borrow a UPS for a day if you have to, but they are pretty
inexpensive anymore.

As far as keeping discussions about a specific problem in a single
thread, that is for your benefit. It's much easier to find all the
answers offered in one thread, isn't it? For those of us who want to
answer and find your question scattered across several threads, it is a
minor irritant at worst :)
