usb problems

I am using xp with intel mother board.
I have used a 2.0 card reader for a long time and bought another one.
When I pluged in the new card reader, the computer can recognise it.
Someone told me to reinstall windows and the problem will be solved. but I
don't want to do so. Please advise what other way can I do.

Have you tried teh reader on another system?

when i insert the old one to the computer, it did not recognised it !!!
