USB Ports

Need some help I have just installed a new web cam and printer but can't get
either to work. I have installed from a CD for both items, have uninstalled
and reinstalled but still they are not working.

I have both item connected to a usb port can you help

Check with the manufacturers; there could be many reasons.

Did you connect the devices after you installed the software? If you
connect a printer (for example) without first loading its software, XP will
install a generic driver which will not work.

Check to see if there is a mismatch of USB port speeds. If you got
something like USB1.0 and the devices require usb2.0 then they will not
work.

Another possibility is that the devices may require additional power from
the pc to operated and channled through the usb ports. You may have noticed
that some usb hubs have an optional power adaptor, that helps run devices in
some cases.

Also, there is a free download from microsoft.com designed for USB's. I've
downloaded and installed it. Not sure if it works but hasn't hurt my
system. So it may help you too. Don't know what the url is but a search at
microsoft.com will get you there...

Also, check your cmos/bios and see if you have those fancy options to enable
the pci slot or onboard USB ports.

These are just some ideas for you to check out and try......
