USB Ports not working

I have a HP notebook that has 3 USB ports that all use to works just fine.
Now just one works. My notebook does not recognize the devices that I plugged
into the other two USB ports. However if I plug a hub into the one working
USB port and then plug other two devices into the hub, they work just fine
and all is well; just a side not the hub does not have it's own power supply.

I would rather not have to use the hub and go back to way the things use to
be and be able to plug my devices directly into the USB ports. I have not
done anything to my computer different before the USB ports stopped working.
ie, installed new software/hardware or update.

Here is what I have done afterwards:
- uninstalled and reinstalled the USB drivers and that didn't help.
- reinstall the chipset driver and that didn't help either.

I anyone has a suggestion or solution to help fix my problem I would be very
happy.
Thanks in advance.

You may not have reinstalled the correct USB drivers You want the "Root HUB"
devices.

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight the USB Root Hub
device(s), Action menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device
drivers again automatically.

I have a similar probelm with my computer. I don´t think it has something to
do with the drivers, it cold be the USB-connection which has not so good
contact. I have a stationary computer with 4 USB, and if i sometimes have
them to close to eachother I don´t get any signal, if i try one other it is
Ok.But it could be so simple that Windows has some sort of problems (software
trouble).

Mark,
Thank you very much for your suggestion, however I already tried that. This
situation with my notebook computer is most frustrating to me. I hope that a
solution will appear as fast as the problem did.
Thanks again,
Dayby.

After trying a thousand different things I ended up having to replace the
motherboard. This was on my PC not a workbook, but it sounds the same. One
minute things worked fine and when I came in the next morning everything was
dead. One thing to try is to plug a thumb drive into the USB port and see if
there is any power there. Is there power? or is it just not recognizing
devices?
