i have a problem with my usb ports. i have a wirless mouse/keyboard that will
work on either of my two usb ports when disconnected and switched. without
fail windows xp recognizes it and installs it fine. my problem is with any
other device. my comp sees the new device(dig cam,web cam,mp3, smartphone, and
most important my printer)when comp or windows sees new device it says it's
unknown. then bubble says that my new device is installed and ready to use.
when i look it up in the device manager it says that no drivers are installed
for this device. try to update driver(or re-install or roll back and comp
says that could not find better match than what i already have!!!)this
happens with any device that use a usb port. funny thing is that all these
things were installed and worked greatbefore i tried to sycronize my phone
through a 4 port usb hub. what is my prob and how do i solve plese help i
have no printer!!!!

Did you install software on the computer for the phone before doing the sync?
If so, it may have changed your registry so that the usb port isn't working
correctly. Try using the manufacturers uninstall utility to uninstall the
phone program and see if that helps. If you use the generic Microsoft
"add/remove programs" utility under control panel, it may not remove all the
registry modifications.
I am not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to computers so I am
not sure that this is the problem but it is a starting point.

Referring to ... "all these things were installed and worked great before I
tried to synchronize my phone
through a 4 port usb hub."... - did you revert back to original setup? Is
the 4 port hub self powered? - if not that may be the problem e.g. computer
cannot meet USB power requirements for your setup.
