USB port showing in "Device Manager" but not in "My Computer"

I have recently gotten a new computer at work, which apparently has all nec.
drivers installed, and my USB flaskkey drive shows up in the Device Manager.
Our iPod also shows up in the Device Manager when plugged in. I get the
message that it's "found new hardware...ready to use." BUT when I go to My
Computer, the location of the USB port doesn't show up anywhere.
(The iPod works with iTunes, but not as a storage device.)
Any ideas?

Do you have a network share on the first free local drive letter?

Has your flash drive ever been used? ie. is it formatted and does it
contain data?

Yes, I've used it on a few different computers and there's never been a
problem with any of the files.

My problem is a little different. I have a new Sony sub notebook and I
brought over a bunch of files from my Dell. When I worked on one (trial
version MS Office Word) and saved it under a new name, the flash drive
wouldn't let me write (copy) to it. Sony is having big trouble finding what's
going on and the new computer is useless to me if I can't update files with
new names and return them to the office via the flash drive. Can you or
anyone help?
Thanks,
Gabby

You mentioned using a trial version of Office - as you probably know, when
the time period expires you can still access files but cannot do anything
with them.

Thanks for your thought. The flash drive was working for some things, but I
upgraded the trial version of Word and changed to a different flash drive
(Memorex MFlyer instead of MicroVault) and lo, it worked fine. either one or
the other did it,or maybe a combination. Thanks to all.

I went through a similar issue with an external HD returning "unknown device"
for the USB port. Turns out it was a BIOS update from Toshiba. Solved it
immediately.
Good luck
