USB/Parallel Port issues

I recently bought a Dell computer with Windows XP. I have a Roland DG Camm 1
Vinyl cutting machine that hooked up to my old computer via the parallel port
on the computer. On my new computer, there is no parallel port. Just 4 USB
Ports. I bought a Belkin USB/Parallel adapter plugged it in and changed the
port to USB in the properties of the vinyl cutter. It's installed, no problem
there, but no matter what I do, it just simply will not cut anything out. The
machine whirls to life like it's going to cut something, but that's it. I've
tried every possible setting, tried changing the USB port the cable was in,
tried uninstalling and reinstalling properly and all to no avail. Could
anyone out there shed some light on this issue for me? I read in a previous
thread with someone having similar issues that they get a PCI to Parallel
Port Controller Card. Is this something I should look into buying?? Any ideas
would be incredibly helpful.

Okay, I bought a PCI to Parallel adapter card, installed it and my machine
still doesn't work. It won't even whirl to life. NOTHING!!!! Does anyone have
any insight on what I may have done wrong. The card is definitely installed
correctly. That's not the issue. I need some insight desperately.

At this point, you probably should look to Roland for some assistance.

What PCI/Parallel card did you buy?
Is is recognized and available as LPT 1?
What are the device manager port settings?
Does BIOS have any settings related to parallel ports?
Do the BIOS settings agree with the device manager settings?
